Amina Stands for Freedom

Amina who has posted a picture of herself topless with the slogan “My Body is My Own and Not the Source of Anyone’s Honour” scrawled in Arabic across her chest has been taken to a Psych ward by her parents after being threatened with death by stoning by Almi Adel. Almi Adel who is the president of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in Tunisia has stated that Amina’s actions could cause “epidemics and disaster” and “could be contagious and give ideas to other women.” The Tunisian so called “secular” laws could also punish her for two years.

Amina’s topless photo and slogans are in part inspired by the Ukraine based group called FEMEN who have made a vast media impact around the world in their struggle to promote the freedom and equality for all women around the world.

The Communist Youth Organization is in full support of Amina. We further recognize that the struggle of freedom and equality for women is contingent and side by side with the struggle against religion which is the prime vehicle for inequality, patriarchy, sexism, gender apartheid, discrimination, torture and stoning. The human tragedy that comes as a result of people being enslaved by governments enforcing 2000 year old archaic ideas is being unfolded once again before us. Amina’s cries are indeed “contagious”, for human freedom is in-born, boundless and cannot be bonded with any religions, governments or ideologies. All people from all walks of life must come together on April 4th to demonstrate a strong unity against Almi Adel’s despotic ideas and tyrannical thugs and to celebrate Amina’s brave actions and help strengthen the fight for the innate freedoms, rights and equality for all of humanity.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has over 30 years oppressed, degraded and stripped women of all their human rights and freedoms: a complete and total attack on women. However, despite this assault on human dignity, Iranian women and youth have remained resilient and are continuously finding new and creative ways to fight for their basic human rights and freedoms. The Communist Youth Organization is an organization that not only represents the struggle against The Islamic Republic for a better world, but also invites all freedom lovers from all walks of life to stand against religion and all despotic, exploitative, and oppressive ideologies harboured by any group or governments.

Maryam Namazie, a world reknown activist chose April 4th as the international day for the defence of Amina. This day has been reflected well in mainstream media, the pubkic sphere as well as various freedom loving groups and activists around the world. In this way FEMEN has welcomed and joined this call to defend Amina and has posted and promoted nude images of men and women to support Amina's protest against the Islamic movement.

On April 4th the Communist Youth Organization alongside FEMEN as well as countless other groups will take to the streets to support Amina. On that day we will send a loud and clear message to Almi Adel and his followers, the government of Tunisia, and anyone who stands to oppress women: that we are united, we cannot be intimidated, we represent the 21st century humanity, and that we are the 99% that will change the world!
